Hostelling Scotland's Explorer Fund

By Dunedin,  April 17, 2019

Hostelling Scotland's Explorer Fund is one of Dunedin's nominated charities for 2019.

Hostelling Scotland is a not-for-profit charity with over 60 youth and affiliate hostels. By providing affordable and welcoming accommodation in some of the best locations across Scotland, its objective is to help all, but especially young people to experience and appreciate what Scotland has to offer.

The Explorer Fund is run by Hostelling Scotland and is designed to give disadvantaged young people a valuable break away from home. The fund receives a high number of applications and those supported include young people living in areas of multiple deprivation, young carers, young people with additional support needs and young people who wouldn't otherwise experience a holiday or trip away from home.

This funding would allow us to support more youth and school groups across Scotland by enabling us to provide additional funded places covering all accommodation and catering expenses in a Hostelling Scotland hostel. The young people develop their skills for life, learning and work by being involved in the designing and planning of the trip with the aim to provide the best possible residential experience which we hope acts as encouragement to explore Scotland further.
